A commission is a custom painting, created to specifications set by the customer. Often bought as an anniversary, wedding or birthday gift, a commissioned painting has special meaning to the recipient. It usually features a subject that has a strong emotional attachment, such as an engagement proposal location, childhood home, or frequently visited holiday destination.
The customer often provides reference material such as photographs from which the painting will be created. If needed, changes (such as colour scheme, cropping etc) can be implemented. The end product will not match the references exactly - the painting will be an artistic response in oil paint on canvas, bringing to life that special place in a uniquely handcrafted object, to be cherished for many years to come.
Discussion of the painting, including sending reference material, is done first. Once both parties are happy, payment is made before beginning the painting. The entire production process takes around 4 weeks from when payment has been received. Part of this time is due to oil paint taking 2-3 weeks to cure fully.
A wide variety of canvas sizes are available, and framing is also a (recommended) option. Paintings can be sent by post, but customer collection is preferred, and in some cases, the work can be hand delivered.
If commissioning a custom painting is something that interests you, or if you have any questions about the process, please get in touch using the form on the Contact page, or through social media.
